WHAt the hell is SUBBUTEO?
recently issued commemorate sterling silver figures.
original team in box… note: goalie in green and blk. this box is even more vintage than i remember!!
the subutteo beatnicks on any given london corner back in the days.
o.k., I was sure nobody would know about this, but I was amazed to find it had such a following in the US! theres even an american subutteo asociation? they even have a listing of their 2008 national champions!! I must admit I grew up on this vintage game, and I loved it’s simple genius approach. as a 4th grader I had every team imaginable, from arsenal to brazil. I would beg my sisters to bring me new stuff every summer when they returned from boarding school in britain. I got the stadium and the crowds one summer, the stadium lights, various teams and the referees on another, the kicker and eventually the whole thing. while my friends played video game pong I chose to flick to kick! o.k… getting all teary eyed here… now in case you are laughing by now, hear this: “after 60 years since first release subbuteo is the probably world’s biggest selling football game. yes that’s right, not Fifa or Pro Evo nor the classic Sensible Soccer; it’s subbuteo that blows them all away. now fair enough up until now subbuteo has always been a board game of sort’s but it was only a matter of time it made its way onto our screens… read more.” by dd
Malcolm Sayer: the designer of C and D type Jaguar cars
the XJ13 with a V12 engine. this is an exceptionally lovely view of the car. now that is an amazing piece of aerodynamic art designed by malcolm sayer (1916-1970). the original 1960’s prototype of the XJ13 is worth an estimated £14 million (about $27 million or €18 million)
sayer was the designer of jaguar cars and one of the first engineers to apply principles of aerodynamics to car design. his designs included the now famous jaguar C-type (also called XK120-C, due to its being based on the jaguar XK120) Jaguar D-type jaguar e-type jaguar XJS (although the car launched several years after sayer’s death). by dd

antony and the johnsons
above: antony hegarty below: antony and the johnsons epilepsy is dancing
ok, this man seems nuts on first encounter, but his voice is straight from the heavens. first time I heard him sing was during a documentary on leonard cohen, my reaction went from who’s this nut trying soooo hard, to my god, he’s amazing. check out the “Hercules And Love Affair” (remixes courtesy of PP) with antony on a few of their tracks. quite nice. i saw him at a cafe one day while having lunch and told him how i came to know of him, he was shy and sweet. by dd
THE NEW MUSEUM IS JUST A COOL FACADE… LITERALLY
not all bad, but in general the exhibition ‘the generational: younger than jesus’ at the new museum and events surrounding reinforce how the new york art scene especially has something very wrong with it. even after the art market bubble has burst, it seems artists with little more than a keen trend-watching sense are getting most attention. where is our future utopia of genuine ideas, unique voices and the ‘governance’ willing to listen? … but I guess this is still new york after all, and the louder you are the more people hear you. by kl
