cafe falai – nudi

well actually that’s “gnudi” sir for you… and falai on lafayette street in NYC has the best of the best. it’s the only dish i order there every single time. ad a nice glass of red and sit outside and your lunch is set. unlike gnocchi, cousin gnudi (pronounced “nu-dee”), is sans potato, just spinach and ricotta cheese and pure goodness. my mouth is watering now.  by dd

paolo roversi – nudi

i owned this book at some point in my life but i guess the pictures inside as well as the money you need to spare to buy it make this book the perfect target for librarylifting. so among others, beautiful shots of kate, shalom and audrey in no other cloth than their own skin. by pp.

cover girl: “the model” track by kraftwerk re-covered by jihae

you can not appreciate electronic music without considering ralf hütter and florian schneider as simply divine. this track, by our lovely friend jihae, is a beautiful cover of the original and then some. the video features actress and sometimes model paz de la huerta (from HBO’s boardwalk empire), and is directed by another one of our friends, the russian born photographer/painter yelena yemchuk. last the piece is being posted here by our great friend and lovely colleague dd… sorry, we have a shortage of friends, so when we find them we have to mention it. track available on itunes under jihae model from album “fire burning rain”. by dd

frozen kenny: south park

as some of you may know i live in a log cabin in the secluded woods of northern vermont and have not had a cable connection since i was 2. i just wanted to share my latest discovery of this show that has been playing on the television for some time apparently, and its called south park… for no specific reason. you may know about it. i was watching wes anderson’s fantastic mister fox one day and was laughing about jarvis cocker’s hillbilly tune in the film and my friend said “well that’s right out of south park”.

south park? i was intrigued, and so i watched a bunch of episodes the other day and “starvin marvin” and “the cartman robot” were quite noteworthy and profound. that said, the rest was a good pile of crap. not funny and not even gross enough (that’s if you’ve ever watched passolini’s salo) it was not really anything, just a good waste of 20 minutes. but from one complainer to another i like the fact that they basically rag on everything. they should start making plastic figures and t-shirts. they would do quite well. by dd

no that’s not very nice. he’s much more than a taco… you know i don’t like to rag on anyone’s belief, just as long as they don’t try and rag on my non-belief. so let’s stop the advertising and the political lobbying and we can all go out for some mexican. you can have a taco and i’ll have some mole. in case you are interested in this snazzy interactive viral site you can visit it here. ok, vaya con dios. ooops. by dd

good times: 1970’s

loulou de la falaise and yves saint laurent

love the ysl safari collection not only because klaus kinski wore it when on holiday to the amazon (hilarious by the way) with werner herzog; but, because it’s utility cut with style so you can always deny being a fashion victim. hah.  by dd

talkin’ about cabinet de curiosités: krug champagne’s past advertising

anjelica huston’s cabinet de curiosites buzz aldrin’s cabinet de curiosites david lynch’s cabinet de curiosites graydon carter’s cabinet de curiosites jean nouvel’s cabinet de curiosites

they say you can tell a person by his most cherished objects, not sure if that’s true but lets go with that for now. the question is, is the notion of le cabinet de curiosités suddenly taking on a sense of relevance today? from thomas erber cabinet at colette in paris to the interview mag coverage of the recent event in new york by thierry despont which some of us attended, to boucherons ellaborate paris vendôme affair and finally to LVMH’s uber luxury champagne krug’s advertising from last year? well if it is, then i suppose that is good news for us object obsessed chaps. what is nice about this campaign is that in a way it reinvents the notion of celebrity advertising by showing a person not for his or her physical appearance but for his or her personal interests. now who on earth wouldn’t pay to not see another lame celebrity face in an ad? the campaign was photographed by thomas lagrange for new york agency ceft and company. by dd
