alden leffot boot now that winter is hitting new york for real, we hope that everyone has the proper boots to tackle all that snow and sleet. for the lucky few that managed to get their hands on the limited tanker boot collaboration by leffot and alden with a hand-sewn split toe in oiled chanois goat leather, no further reading is needed. for the unlucky many, who either are suffering from wet and cold feet or are swanking  around in boots like everyone else, consider to stop by leffot on christofer and gay street in west village to upgrade your shoe game. by kt

the design process

design film

a great promotional film from the 60’s by walter landor and associates showing the design process from start to finish. unfortunately or luckily (..?) the process has slightly changed today due to 3d- software and 3d- printers. by kt

if he was strange, that’s because he was… not because his producers dressed him up. he had a voice, it was not beautifully musical, but like nina simone and chet baker before him, it was his own. that’s what made him beautiful. his lyrics were not about paparazzi’s or poker. it was about space and death… o.k. he did a few songs about cats and dogs, but hey, we all make mistakes sometimes. and the dog one wasn’t that bad. well… we will miss our boooy for sure. thank you for great times and most importantly for showing us all how to age and get old gracefully. you can’t dress up in ziggy stardust gear at 55 and jump around like a teenage rockstar like its the old days… you put a suite on and chilled out and took it like a real man. mick jagger could learn a few things there. if i was ever disappointed of bowie, it was after he got his teeth job and pulled a few facial skins, but im sure he had plenty of PR agents to blame for that. will miss you man. left a flower for you in front of your new york apt. and iman darling, may peace be upon you girl, he’s up there somewhere… in the stars now… probably next to monsieur jacques (romain georges) brel singing “my death”:

my death waits like an old roue’ so confident, i’ll go his way
whistle to him and the passing time

my death waits like a bible truth at the funeral of my youth
are we proud for that and the passing time?

my death waits like a witch at night as surely as our love is right
let’s not think about the passing time

but whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, I don’t care for in front of that door there is you

my death waits like a beggar blind who sees the world through an unlit mind
throw him a dime for the passing time

my death waits there between your thighs your cool fingers will close my eyes
let’s think of that and the passing time

my death waits to allow my friends a few good times before it ends
so let’s think of that and the passing time

for whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, i don’t care for in front of that door there is you

my death waits there among the leaves in magician’s mysterious sleeves
rabbits and dogs and the passing time

my death waits there among the flowers where the blackest shadows, blackest shadows cowers
let’s pick lilacs for the passing time

my death waits there in a double bed sails of oblivion and my head
so pull up your sheets against the passing time

but whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, i don’t care for in front of that door there is, thank you… by dd

kodaks vintage, classic, retro, super-8 camera: we must’ve done something right that we ‘aint doing no more

Bellami-HD1-chinon-super8

nice styling from the modern japanese bellami-HD1 camera with a modern chinon lens – but a total throw-away as a digital camera disguised in “super model” 8mm camera… lame!

real-real… kodak’s latest backtrack on corp stupid decision making – super 8 film and a modernized super 8 camera are back, a pleasant surprise.

ok so we owe this yet-to-be-issued kodak camera a blind review. note that we have not tested the camera as its still in production and we will post another once we get our hands on one. but top-line we are uber excited to see this amazing tool make a come back, and more importantly to see kodak supporting, and hopefully supplying, the super-8 cartridge films on a regularly available basis.

the good: its a super 8. it takes real film, and hopefully the film will not cost you your entire weekly allowance. its new and using the latest technology. keeping what worked and adding what wasn’t available. like a proper rechargeable battery that will last you the entire shoot. the design is simple and clean. we especially love the kodak revised minimal logo on the side. kodak can now process, scan, and deliver your film in one shot. love the yellow and off-white colors reminiscent of dieter rams iconic choice with braun, bringing back some of that 70’s nostalgia. usb plugs in the back. simple usability making it easy for newbie millennials… don’t forget, like em or hate em, we need those ding dongs if we are to bring some cost efficiency to the film cartridges.

the bad: it looks like a toy. the camera in its design is a reference to more of the 70’s or late 60’s units rather than the early 60’s which we personally prefer. 70’s was the era of plastics but also the era of textures which this camera has chosen to dodge at least. but the casing does not appear to be metal (again this is not factual)… if plastic, knowing mister behar, it is the finest plastic available.

the ugly: wholly shit, where is my pistol grip? how can we shoot super 8 without the pistol grip, so beloved by film fans. we even rigged one on our old hi 8 camera at some point. that said, unlike the old narrow cameras of the 60’s, this little cute baby can be held like a basket-ball for those long smooth hand-held shots, like the ones in “i am cuba” directed by mikhail kalatozov and his genius DP sergey urusevskiy.

in the end we cant wait to get our hands on one and put it to the test. thank you kodak for bringing this art back and mister behar for making it famous. by dd

I don’t want anything else but the new Jaguar low drag GT

in a world of shit cars, here is a brand new car with airbag, ABS breaking, AC and all the stupid necessary things we all want and need, but cant find in a vintage car, packaged in a beautifully proportioned body of a legend. this car is individually built for each client to his or her specs so the sky is the limit.

a little background on the low drag GT: the jaguar low drag GT is based on the prototype made from the original e-type by jaguar back in the 60’s. efforts to create an optimized racing e-type, with reduced weight and a further enhanced aerodynamic profile for the factory-resulted in the low drag version as the company began to plan the 1962 racing season. in conjunction with the development of the low drag, jaguar were also putting focus into the all-aluminum ‘lightweight’’ e-type, with uprated engines, suspension and brakes. 12 of these all-aluminum were developed, and they soon became the focus of the racing development at jaguar. this left the beautiful low drag prototype in the shade, and although development continued as an ‘after hours’ project, much more focus went into the eventual 12 lightweight jags. malcolm sayer who tested the low drag in a wind tunnel in those after hours, discovered that the shape was more aerodynamically efficient than a ferrari 250GTO (10%) and the standard e-type (20%) but the low drag was left behind as the lightweight jags took the ascendant position and redyed for the 1962 race. it took several decades for the low drag to reemerge from the archives but now you can have a custom one made just for you! now what a treat that would be? the cost, pending your requirements of course, would start around £650,000 i wont mention what that is in dollars. by uh
