art is in the air

along with a 68 degree debut to spring, the 2012 armory show is starting today and all the artsy ones are meeting up in piers 92& 94 through this sunday. although i am impatiently waiting for the frieze art fair (only because it’s outdoors in the sweet may sun) i am looking forward to see what the 14th edition of armory show has to offer, as it’s a great event to find out about new artists, and see new works by the ones we already know and love. 133 international exhibitors are featured in the fair, including names like ai weiwei represented by gallery hyundai. the photo is from 2011 armory show, a work by daniel arsham. by ak

pasolini and pound

pound was never one of my favorite poets, I always found him rather fleeting; however, this is a remarkable interview.  subtitles on the bottom. by sv

good girl!

we like sandra fluke. for a second, consider the absurdity. religious organizations are trying to ban offering birth control to those on their insurance plan, because their religion is against it. their religion is against birth control because no one but god can take a life; yet, they are for capital punishment, and hell–why not war! (hmmm? tight argument) in other words, they will force upon you their religious beliefs should you work there or in this case go to school there. rush limbaugh (some conservative political commentator and radio host) made an ignorant comment, inline with his apparent character, stating sandra fluke, who opposed this absurd law “is a slut… a prostitute” for simply wanting  birth control to be covered under her insurance she is surely paying for. he stated that if we are paying for a portion her birth control through our taxes “so she can have sex”(another thing banned by god and religion apparently), we should then get something in return. rush wanted her to at least post videos of her having sex online so taxpayers can watch it (now that is surely in line with his religion and american moral/conservative values). as if the rest of our tax dollars are really accounted for… like the billions spent on fake wars or funding wall street. now it even more absurd when all of this is from a man, rush limbaugh, who was detained in a florida airport last year after returning from a trip to the dominican republican with viagra that he did not have a prescription for. it all makes me want to puke… and puke on his very small penis and his even smaller ideology. off the air please! by ts

1939 Auto Union V16 Type C-D Bergrennwagen the racing car history of what is known as audi

the trademark double rear wheels

the V16… 8 pipes on each side one for every one of its 16 cylinders

this was such a beautiful design. i had a silver toy version of this as a child, and i remember staring at it in awe. i didn’t quite understand design then but i could tell this was not an ordinary car.

“auto union was a joint venture of 4 car manufacturers in germany during the great depression, which eventually came to be known as audi, as we know it today. the trademark symbol of auto union, the four overlapping rings, symbolized the four member companies represented the four marques of auto union: audi, DKW, horch and wanderer. although the company used the four ring logo, it was only used on it racing cars in that period, while the member companies used their own names and emblems. the company has evolved into present day audi as a subsidiary of VW.” more here. by uh

Mad Men to the rescue: estee lauder and banana republic looking for some help

lame, lame, lame…

after banana republic’s ill attempt at mad men, here’s estee lauder jumping on the mad-wagon. unfortunately, neither one is doing it well. the banana republic ads look like a “canal street version” of the actual mad men, poorly produced and desperately cheap. estee’s carolyn murphy is of course the perfect choice for don’s wife, but it’s incredible how cheap and discarded the finished ad actually looks in the video… or maybe estee lauder has moved distribution to k-mart and i’m not aware of that? the behind the scenes video is of course “veeery interesting” i mean, i have never seen a model get made up before, nor had i ever seen close up shots of a bunch of products. its very surprising and entertaining indeed! thank you for that, but maybe next time spend 5 minutes, thinking about what’s in the video for us? cause i couldn’t find anything other than commenting on your me too stance.

in any case, all that said i’m glad there is still a TV show to emulate that doesn’t make you want to puke, if they ever get it right. i have to admit even i wasn’t immune to the mad men. after refusing to watch it for years i finally gave it another try a month ago. i had seen one episode 2 years ago after repeated suggestions by friends but got bored halfway through. i finally watched the entire four seasons this past month, not because it was amazing, but because i was desperately out of material to watch. i guess i got used to it and must admit found it to be quite beautiful when you consider its origin. i used to say if they put you in a room with a toad for long enough, eventually you’ll fall in love with it. and i guess after 12 hours i did. my favorite character, of course is not don draper but rather roger sterling for his dry sense of humor and silver hair, i cant wait to go grey… by dd
