domplatz
this is my favorite period of richter, the blurred photo paintings and portraits, but this is not one of my favorites in the batch and thank god. this one sold on tuesday for 37 million, that’s ten times the price it sold for just 15 years ago at 3.5. don bryant, founder of napa valley’s bryant family vineyard is the new happy owner. i’m sure he really gets ‘art’ just like his wines. pay him a visit. by dd

PAUL MCCARTHY SCULPTURES
the current exhibition at hauser & wirth on 18th is a must see! you can’t imagine the beauty that these daunting oversized dreamy nightmares hold until you are dwarfed by them. “mccarthy unleashes debauchery and desire with extreme technical daring, charting a territory where our fundamental impulses collide with our most cherished myths and hypocritical societal norms.” seen here in his interpretation of his schneewittchen (snow white) theme. you can read more here, but to see in the flesh, go to 511 west 18th street, until june 1st. by kl

the dreamers: nazi love
painting by stanley borack, born january 23, 1927 in brooklyn, new york, to jewish immigrants from austria. this is one of his more intriguing pieces amongst the many western cover arts for pulp fiction. “i always loved a good western movie. the old west was a classical era in american history, with its unique clothing, colorful indian costumes, and wagon trains. who doesn’t like to look at a handsome horse in movement?” more on stan the man. by xy

the other warhol – les levine
by les levine, irish-canadian artist… deemed “the other warhol” even though his works were generally ‘pre’ not ‘post’. he was a major precursor to the conceptual movement, but considered himself a ‘media sculptor’ as he was one of the first to use technology and information as a base for his art works.
