this blog is a visual notebook of inspirations for a group of bandit bloggers. we post things we see and like. our lives don’t revolve around singular topics and neither does our blog. sorry! nothing is in-or-out of context here. enjoy xx
did you know the grip on the stan smiths was based on snake skin?
and who knew? i had no idea stan smith had anything to do with skateboarding, let alone the gonz (mark gonzales)
here’s a new take on the classic adidas stan smith. i suppose you can make it any color, and it will still be cool. love the two-tone grip sole, and personally, i think i’d take this over pharrell’s m+m color line. by dd
our friend ned benson’s movie(s), the disappearance of eleanor rigby, starring jessica chastain and james mcavoy, is going wide this friday to major cities all over the country for the HIM and HER versions (which is pretty cool – maybe catch both if you are in a dilemma). guaranteed to provide a strong emotional experience… by fp
yes i used to have a few early kate bush albums, and yes i had a sort of love / hate relationship with the songs. they at once captivated and annoyed you but they stayed in there somewhere, because she was truly original. at the time, many mocked her silly theatrics and high pitched voice, but who could they talk about in the 80’s if not kate. the chart music at the time was quite drab. in later years she did became a bit too schmaltzy and common-romantic but she found herself after a long rest away from the lime-light and came back with a truly original album in “50 words for snow”.
now… years later i had to repurchase some of her tracks, namely her early work, wuthering heights, which itself has a lovely video with kate looking as chic as anyone in a current fashion shoot would hope to (again you can forgive the silly wide-shots with the awkward legs). in any case, come what may, she was a special someone for sure, and a true stand-out in a sea of deep fried pop. the credit goes to pink floyds david gilmour who practically discovered her and signed her up with his record company at the time. looking her up i found this documentary by bbc, the kate bush story 2014, which i think any kate bush acquaintance may find of interest. i had a bit of a hard time after 24 minutes until the very end as this in between time was a bit embarrassing in my opinion, but take a look and see. enjoy. by ac
röyksopp featuring karin dreijer andersson, the lead singer from the knife
and i guess we have to put this old one in there too, now that dd and kt and have talked so much about “the knife” and “the drug” and all… cause what else is there? but a great music video… by xy
pass this on… one of our old time favorite songs by swedish band the knife. we were actually just talking about the norwegian band röyksopp and how i never really loved their music that much, except maybe the track “the drug”, or “what else is there” which ironically features the lead singer from the knife. so then we looked up “pass this on” and from there i was saying how this video was inspired by master of ceremonies himself… mister nick cave, and his amazing video which we had posted in the past; 15 feet of pure white snow featuring britpop prince, jarvis cocker on the dance floor… i saw it necessary to insure we post this and link it to the old post on nick cave and leave it to you to judge the rest. but the similarity and style of the two videos are impossible to miss. see for yourself. ok… happy friday and good weekend, good vibes, positive thinking, sunshine, bubble gum and all that prozac crap… sorry someone told me today to be positive, so i’m doing my best. by dd
massively personal and poetic film. based on a book by edmundo desnoes and directed in 1968 by tomás gutiérrez alea (IMDB) during the turmoil of social change in cuba. it is unfortunately his one and only good film, but how many can you do in a lifetime anyway? don’t ask why the titles are in japanese… by dd
another film by the dynamic duo santiago and mauricio sierra featuring model frida gustavsson. be prepared to travel in your mind. deciphering this will not be easy but its a feast for your tired and broken eyes. your layman’s review of the clip will go something like this;
“in a dark industrial future world, frida is dead… her wicked coffin is designed by xavier veilhan. we then peak inside and find that frida lays there bare and rather oiled in fetal position. not a bad way to die…. (as a matter of fact that’s exactly how i plan to go). the machines switch on. pistons pound and wheels and gears churn. freda senses her calling from inside the coffin. she is evidently aroused by the noise and the machines as her nipples extend to the heavens. a diaphragm opens and closes. a piston pounds again. are these the machines inside her, powering her moves? or are they her sexual memories? freda leaves her womb like coffin and floats in mid air naked. she is scanned by a giant scanner. she twitches as if a shock of electricity was streamed into her vains. suddenly she opens her eyes. she is alive again! and now she is dressed… sort of nicely in heel and all (?). we scan her again. her memory is retained, she stretches her neck in one yoga move. she smirks and laughs… she is ready for something but what… find out…”
ts teams assessment; you can’t really loose with a pretty naked girl and a pair of talented boys. we will probably like what ever they will do. by xy
lou reed was a man of oh-so-many talents. including, as we see here, a good pitch. this is the 1985 ad for honda scooters, where lou urges you not to settle for walking, but wherever you travel–make sure it’s somewhere wild. you can see the world trade center in the background of the ad, and the sordid world of manhattan’s lower east side in the commercial. my my, how things change–but lou’s undeniable cool will reign forever! by sv
