some thoughts on kindness

george saunders the importance of kindness

macarthur fellow and one of my personal favorite living authors mr. george saunders reminds us (in an animated trailer by tim bierbaum) that the greatest gift we can give is to be kind. it is all too often that human beings forget this; kindness is the brilliance that transcends time. by sv

sol lewitt

Screen Shot 2014-04-17 at 10.15.36 AM

the famously shy artist sol lewitt is depicted in this new documentary film by chris teerink. a dominant voice in conceptual art, lewitt’s legacy of stunning colors and illusory patterns is beauty that has, and will continue to span and inspire artists and admirers alike. the film will be playing at the illustrious film forum in new york city, may 7-13. by sv

l’odyssée de cartier by bruno aveillan

l’odyssée de cartier, the elaborately conceived film by bruno aveillan, is a fantasy trip where the cartier panther comes to life and travels the globe. cleverly, he makes key strategic stops along the way, in the sales-rich developing markets like china and india; undoubtedly guaranteeing a consistent flow of sales from these new wealth customers.

nicely imagined and shot as only bruno aveillan could. my only criticism is that the obvious pander could have been a bit more artful. by uh

threeasfour topo-graphic staring lily mcmenamy

our dear friends at thereasfour really did it this time. i’m simply amazed at why these guys are not as huge as say, alexander mcqueen? the designs are incredibly structural and detailed; they translate fractal geometry into intricate fabrics. i must say, this is my favorite collection from them to date and they seem to get better and better. i wish i could wear some of these dresses myself! the beautiful music is by mike stroud / RATATAT, cinematography by brian gonzalez and 3D animation and visual effects editing by alex czetwertynski. a nice package overall, great work guys. by dd
