gucci: common people take on the harder they come

gucci 2017 pre fall campaign by photographer glen luchford

long version – directors cut of the clip

brilliant casting by shay nielsen (malick sidibe),

“i wanna live like common people (the ones who can afford gucci that is)”

love this retro fun shoot for gucci – knowing glen and his interests i can see references from perry henzell “the harder they come,” jarvis cocker’s pulp video choreography, rockers and glen luchford basic brilliance. well done glen, new direction for you, but  you can make anything look good son. by uh

she’s back and she’s the newly appointed ambassador for puma… i was never a huge fan but i guess this works, for a photoshoot outside of katz’s deli of a girl walking a dog. not too sure what this has to do with puma and their new ‘do you’ campaign, maybe i’m missing something, or maybe it’s ‘fashion’. by lb

Alber Elbaz baring his sweet soul

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 12.05.24 AM

this monologue is not new, but is still so relevant. it expresses the man’s feelings, and attempts to expose the dilemma of the business of creative consumption in our contemporary world. exploring the trouble with the business infrastructure loosing worship of the creative that feeds it’s very existence. i am not a fashion designer, but it works for so many realms of creatives, this monologue reminds me to reassess what i love about what i do, what i should work with, against, for, etc. by kl

the true cost: an every-season essential

“the true cost” the movie: know what your cheap clothes, that you don’t need, are doing to this world

true cost fashion documentary movie trailer

behind the scenes with director andrew morgan explaining why he was led to make the  documentary film “the true cost”

yes this is an older film but i just saw it. a great movie for anyone in the fashion, design, advertising community but also for anyone who is a consumer of cheap things, from H&M, to gap, to zara, to forever 21. you will be thinking twice before you buy yet another item you don’t need. “in reality they are making us, and this world poor, yet giving us the illusion of being rich, by offering us cheap things we don’t need at cost we truly don’t understand“… a must see. by kl

gucci 2016 campaign by glen luchford vs nick cave and jarvis cocker fifteen feet of pure white snow

nick cave and jarvis cocker – fifteen feet of pure white snow

this nick cave video is a favorite of ours. not only the song and the lyrics are incredible, but so is the video and then there is the bonus of spotting jarvis cocker in the crowd just before they pull off what appears to be a signature jarvis stint (think back to pulp and common people group dance sequence). the gucci peace is not as great as nick caves video of course but yes we do like the references mister luchford. by dd

nick knight teaches lady gogo how to dance: tom ford SS16

tom ford spring summer 2016 – the video to replace all runway shows

i want your love – le chic c’est le freak!…. disco days are back on saturday night and john travolta will be happy to know… master of all ceremonies mister nick knight kills it with this feverish demonstration of tom ford’s spring summer 2016 released today. as halston did a few years back “a video is apparently worth a thousand shows” because the show is for 15 minutes and a youtube video is your BBF forever… did we mention its also much cheaper? i wonder if someone ever thought of doing a catalog in that way? hmmmm….

“instead of having a traditional show this season, i decided to try something new. i wanted to think about how to present a collection in a cinematic way that was designed from its inception to be presented online.” – tom ford

well done tom we like that man, and nick you just cant do wrong mister. of course it would have helped if the models could actually dance! was coco not available? and what about karlie kloss? she had a bit of experience in i’ll be there the inez and vinoodh clip we posted a few months back, coincidentally it has a song by the same band “chic”… the cast include: social media (sig!) character lucky blue smith, alongside fellow male models alex dunstan, david agbodji, tarun niijer (who was the first model of indian descent to open burberry) as well as mica arganaraz, kayla scott, xaio wen ju, valery kaufman, aymeline valade, lida fox, lexi boling and some pop star called lady gaga – i want your love, chic. by kc

an army of eclectic-looking models stomped out to showcase the MM6 maison margiela ready-to-wear collection, which highlighted clothes that looked as if they’d been culled from a futuristic thrift store.

one model wore a camisole dress seemingly crafted from plastic bags, while another wore an oversize sweater with an airbrushed mystical horse motif. according to the label’s show notes, the collection took its cues from “london and the creative community surrounding MM6,” and it certainly had a messy, all-over-the-place, over-sized, mismatch feel. shoot me now if this is where fashion is headed. margiela, i am disappointed. by lb

architect maya lin’s installation for phillip lim’s fashion week show – NYFW 2015

we actually love the gestural installation for philip lim’s show and well gladly take that over any old runway/catwalk… but before we all run out and comment “that’s awesome” on instagram, it would be good to understand a bit of the history and where it came from. thanks to the internet, we create very little new content, its the curse of our generation, and we, ourselves, are guilty of that many folds. its simply too easy to just regurgitate what has been there. and the info is so readily available in cliff notes version. but the least we can do is to study the things that attract us just a bit, and understand what came before us. if nothing, when we want to copy some one, and we always evidently do, we can go to the source and the origin of it, and maybe learn a bit about its history first… now that’s not an ‘outdated way of doing things’ doll… that’s just  “super awesome!!by xy
