the special nelson mandela: buried but never dead
i played this back then, and i play it now because unfortunately apartheid is still alive under other names. a beautiful song for a beautiful man; was playing it in the office all week. free nelson mandela – the specials (aka). written by jerry dammers and performed by his coventry based band the special A.K.A. – with lead vocal by stan campbell – released in 1984 as a protest against the imprisonment of nelson madela by the apartheid south african government. by dd

The Future is Unwritten
a few days ago, i came across the news that the joe strummer mural, on the side of good ol’ niagara on the the corner of 7A in the EV, was being removed due to renovations. pretty bummed by the news as i have been on a bit of a stummer kick. luckily, i had just borrowed a handful of old albums to play on my new record player, one of them being the clash’s debut studio album. a little earlier today i found out that the mural will be redone after the building is renovated! here’s a little video that pays tribute to strummer and the mural. oh and happy birthday joe. thank you for adding to the soundtrack of our lives. by jr
