that’s entertainment: the jam without the butter

sorry to piss on this pop parade, but i’m still lost in the mod galaxy thanx to ar. this song was most influential with bands like bauhaus and tons on tail and the rest that followed. this was when the term “unplugged” meant you were straight, not on MTV. the simple drum and acoustic strum with potent words was a stand out. what is amazing is that although i still love this song, to this day, this is the first i’m seeing this clip myself, and just the other day i was saying how its so funny that every punk, rock, grunge, etc. band that come up and claims to be different, ends up grabbing a guitar and striking the same damn pose on stage, legs apart, leaning back like dee dee and waking the poor guitar to death. i was saying how cool would it be for a punk band to sit on a stool and settle down for a change? and here you have it with paul weller… from electric circus to this within a year. i guess i just like the way they did things with such ease. also if interested here is a very funny interview in sweden with paul weller. by xy

Flight Facilities: crave you

this is pretty 4th of july appropriate, i think i counted 63 flags in there… good track by the mysterious aussie dj duo, flight facilities, whom prefer to remain anonymous however have managed to tour japan and elsewhere in 2010-2011 or so i’m told… (how do you remain really anonymous and tour is beyond me but ok). giselle rosselli (not related to the master) who collaborated on this track is amazing and the song summery sweet. there is probably 20 remixes of this but this one is my fav pop indulgence, if i ever had any. i really “relaaaate to this” cause i do play with puppies and snake and do headstands and splits when i’m home alone too. we have tho much in common. by dd

style note: paul weller vs pete townshend

oooh! just remembered… such perfect timing. been waiting and holding off for the right time to post this muffin. a good quality rare shot of pete townshend and paul weller at the peak of their time. while pete is a swell guy, i was never into “the who”, i never understood it or saw what all the fuss over the guitar trashing was back then. especially when that became an act at the end of every show. to me they were a big pop band with a trick or two. on the other hand i was an avid “jam” fan in its early days. pauls social views and activist stand was inspirational and while he drifted later years he always carried those views along with his great taste… (if not always in his music). here you have the dashing paul weller with townshend in as good as a condition as you’ll ever find him. by dd

nagra 300-i: 20 watt integrated tube power amplifier

another beautiful audio object from swiss manufacturer nagra. price per value this unit is not as attractive as its pure aesthetic. for approximately $25,200 (17,750 euros), the approx cost of the 300i, much better sounding units can be excavated, and frankly i personally think anything over $10,000 is a bit of an ostentatious endeavor, but if money was not an issue this is indeed a beautiful piece, not only to listen to, but also stare at. type: integrated amplifier, power: 2x 20w, 15hz to 55khz -3db, total harmonic distortion: 0.8 %, valves: 300b push -pull. by xy
