screamin jay hawkins: what a busy man!

on the wiki page for singer screamin jay hawkins, under his obituary one can read :

“he left behind many children by many women; an estimated 55 at the time of his death, and upon investigation, that number “soon became perhaps 75 offspring”.”

busy indeed! let’s remember him not for over populating this earth but rather for his amazing performance of the coolest version of “i put a spell on you” 😉 by pp’

13 Most Beautiful… Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

i love to watch the clips of screen tests andy shot between 1964 and 1966 in his silvery factory. people are fascinating, especially when they’re trying to do nothing.

13 most beautiful…songs for andy warhol’s screen tests features 13 of warhol’s classic silent film portraits. subjects include nico, lou reed, edie sedgwick, dennis hopper, etc. and are presented with newly commissioned soundtracks performed by dean wareham and britta phillips who i don’t know of, but sound yummy. by kl

the ghost who walk – the model who talk

one would says that a model singing in not very new and surely not very promising exept we’re talking about karen elson who is madame jack white and that was really not deceiving on stage with her burlesque band few years ago. so let’s hope for the best, i already love the artwork around the cd “the ghost who walk” released date is supposedly on the 25th but they seems to play the thrill on us. will check for sure. by pp’

why don’t you love me – beyoncé

this is the only beyoncé video i’m allowed to post on tomorrow started. love the makeup, love the hair, love the moves, love matching fingernails to turquoise rotary phone. i much prefer this girl to the one attempting to win in the try-hard edgy fashion competition. sometimes you have to allow yourself some mass pop indulgence, especially when they’re using some of your favorite references.  by kl

iggy pop – preliminaires

iggy pop record “preliminaires” was released last year, i totally missed it then but finally dabbled this weekend. it’s a really nice one and rather interesting since it’s based on texts from french infamous writer michel houellebecq. plus there are some songs in french including a cover from jacques prevert’s “les feuilles mortes”. nonetheless, how interesting is the cover designed by persian/french illustrator marjane satrapi, author of the incredible “persepolis”? all good! cool trailer here. by pp’

i don’t know why

i don’t know why, but every spring i have a joni mitchell moment. i think it’s because it’s a time to remember that the bleak winter eventually ends, and the world won’t always be exhausting and brutal—it can be soft and sweet, and fun and romantic. by kl
