musician and composer of early electronic music delia derbyshire – dr. who british tv series
dusseldorf based “pole” the electronic music group, must have been very much influenced by delia derbyshire
coventry cool girl and post feminist delia derbyshire: in 1959, on approaching decca records, delia was told that the company did not employ women in their recording studios, so she went to work for the UN in geneva before returning to london to work for music publishers boosey & hawkes. in 1960 delia joined the BBC as a trainee studio manager. she excelled in this field, but when it became apparent that the fledgling radiophonic workshop was under the same operational umbrella, she asked for an attachment there – an unheard of request, but one which was, nonetheless, granted. delia remained ‘temporarily attached’ for years, regularly deputising for the head, and influencing many of her trainee colleagues and later musicians across the world in the field of electronic music. she is a definitive find for a young chap like me… by dd
if he was strange, that’s because he was… not because his producers dressed him up. he had a voice, it was not beautifully musical, but like nina simone and chet baker before him, it was his own. that’s what made him beautiful. his lyrics were not about paparazzi’s or poker. it was about space and death… o.k. he did a few songs about cats and dogs, but hey, we all make mistakes sometimes. and the dog one wasn’t that bad. well… we will miss our boooy for sure. thank you for great times and most importantly for showing us all how to age and get old gracefully. you can’t dress up in ziggy stardust gear at 55 and jump around like a teenage rockstar like its the old days… you put a suite on and chilled out and took it like a real man. mick jagger could learn a few things there. if i was ever disappointed of bowie, it was after he got his teeth job and pulled a few facial skins, but im sure he had plenty of PR agents to blame for that. will miss you man. left a flower for you in front of your new york apt. and iman darling, may peace be upon you girl, he’s up there somewhere… in the stars now… probably next to monsieur jacques (romain georges) brel singing “my death”:
my death waits like an old roue’ so confident, i’ll go his way
whistle to him and the passing time
my death waits like a bible truth at the funeral of my youth
are we proud for that and the passing time?
my death waits like a witch at night as surely as our love is right
let’s not think about the passing time
but whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, I don’t care for in front of that door there is you
my death waits like a beggar blind who sees the world through an unlit mind
throw him a dime for the passing time
my death waits there between your thighs your cool fingers will close my eyes
let’s think of that and the passing time
my death waits to allow my friends a few good times before it ends
so let’s think of that and the passing time
for whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, i don’t care for in front of that door there is you
my death waits there among the leaves in magician’s mysterious sleeves
rabbits and dogs and the passing time
my death waits there among the flowers where the blackest shadows, blackest shadows cowers
let’s pick lilacs for the passing time
my death waits there in a double bed sails of oblivion and my head
so pull up your sheets against the passing time
but whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do
angel or devil, i don’t care for in front of that door there is, thank you… by dd
after his wife committed suicide, with a gunshot to her heart, stalin, the great dictator of russia, lived a lonely and isolated life.
with his wife, nadya
mozarts piano concerto no. 23
stalin and his beloved daughter svetlana alliluyeva
afraid of his own circle, and them afraid of him. imprisoning and committing to death, many of his very own relatives he became even colder after tanya’s death… he would escape the kremlin to his isolated private country home in the woods, dacha, guarded by 100’s of special forces. inside, no one was allowed, except his illiterate, but loyal governess. he slept in the day time and seldom at night, in various rooms in the house, and always on the couch with his shirt as his pillow. i found it fascinating and very melancholy to learn that in this house, often alone and yet all powerful, stalin (meaning steel/man) isolated from his people, family and the world, would listen repeatedly to his favorite song, mozart’s piano concerto no. 23 in a major, k. 488: II. andante… now that’s one fuckin’ state of mind… by uh
this clip of the amazing band; the dead weather, is just incredible. fucking mad… i have goose bumps all over listening to it. i hope you’ll enjoy. peace… the man with a classic range rover… by ars
david bowie’s latest album “blackstar” will be coming out 8th of january 2016. a little “ashes to ashes”, a little “space oddity”, and all good – at almost 10 minutes long! now that’s not a music video but rather a short film! by sv
gucci’s 2016 video ad campaign shot by photographer glen luchford
nick cave and jarvis cocker – fifteen feet of pure white snow
this nick cave video is a favorite of ours. not only the song and the lyrics are incredible, but so is the video and then there is the bonus of spotting jarvis cocker in the crowd just before they pull off what appears to be a signature jarvis stint (think back to pulp and common people group dance sequence). the gucci peace is not as great as nick caves video of course but yes we do like the references mister luchford. by dd
tom ford spring summer 2016 – the video to replace all runway shows
i want your love – le chic c’est le freak!…. disco days are back on saturday night and john travolta will be happy to know… master of all ceremonies mister nick knight kills it with this feverish demonstration of tom ford’s spring summer 2016 released today. as halston did a few years back “a video is apparently worth a thousand shows” because the show is for 15 minutes and a youtube video is your BBF forever… did we mention its also much cheaper? i wonder if someone ever thought of doing a catalog in that way? hmmmm….
“instead of having a traditional show this season, i decided to try something new. i wanted to think about how to present a collection in a cinematic way that was designed from its inception to be presented online.” – tom ford
well done tom we like that man, and nick you just cant do wrong mister. of course it would have helped if the models could actually dance! was coco not available? and what about karlie kloss? she had a bit of experience in i’ll be there the inez and vinoodh clip we posted a few months back, coincidentally it has a song by the same band “chic”… the cast include: social media (sig!) character lucky blue smith, alongside fellow male models alex dunstan, david agbodji, tarun niijer (who was the first model of indian descent to open burberry) as well as mica arganaraz, kayla scott, xaio wen ju, valery kaufman, aymeline valade, lida fox, lexi boling and some pop star called lady gaga – i want your love, chic. by kc

this is an alternative slower version of the original song and possibly the best version in my opinion.
musically, “crazy” was inspired by film scores of italian spaghetti westerns, in particular by the works of enino morricone who is best known as the composer of sergio lenone’s dollars trilogy but more specifically the song “last man standing” by gian piero reverberi and gianfranco reverberi from the 1968 spaghetti western viva! django (italian preparati la bara), a sequel to the better-known django. “crazy” not only samples the song, but utilizes the parts of the main melody and chord structure. the original songwriters for “last man standing” are credited by gnarls barkley for this song alongside their own credits.
the lyrics for the song developed out of a conversation between danger mouse and ceelo… ceelo took that conversation and made it into ‘crazy,’ which we recorded in one take… regardless its a massively incredible heart renching song. its on our repeat playlist all day long. and the lyrics:
i remember when, i remember, i remember when i lost my mind there was something so pleasant about that place. even your emotions had an echo in so much space
and when you’re out there without care, yeah, i was out of touch but it wasn’t because i didn’t know enough i just knew too much
does that make me crazy? does that make me crazy? does that make me crazy? possibly
and i hope that you are having the time of your life but think twice, that’s my only advice
come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are, ha ha ha bless your soul you really think you’re in control
well, i think you’re crazy i think you’re crazy i think you’re crazy just like me
my heroes had the heart, to lose their lives out on a limb
and all i remember is thinking, i want to be like them
ever since i was little, ever since i was little it looked like fun
and it’s no coincidence i’ve come
and i die when i’m done
