no photo – tom ford

seen on fantastic man, great!:

“Photographing everything and throwing every random image on Facebook is the new stalking, and a sign of bad manners, which is what provoked designer Mr. TOM FORD to hand out the card as shown above to his audience on Sunday night’s womenswear show in London. Indeed, photography should be an act of consideration, not something to do just out of total boredom. Also, one should trust one’s memory more often.”

COS BY SCHELTENS & ABBENES

i always loved the then experimental still lifes by maurice scheltens, but collaborating with artist liesbeth abbenes (creating scheltens&abbens) seems to create a beautiful minimalist world. these images from the most recent cos lookbook are so great because they are simultaneously functional, industrial, direct, cerebral, mysterious and playful.   by kl

shikai tseng – photosensitive

recently graduated from the london’ royal college of art, shikai tseng is covering vases with photo sensitive solution before placing them into a case that will act like a pinhole camera and expose the vases, it’s beautiful and very poetic if you ask me. video here by pp

los angeles slack: faye dunnaway photographed by terry oneill

if im not mistaken this is at the hollywood hotel pool. we may have posted this before but in researching material i came upon it and its quite a feeling. you can imagine faye having her morning coffee after receiving her oscar the night before and reading the papers and the hollywood trash reporters with all the phoney accolades and her thinking to herself what is greatness after all… ok maybe i’m over thinking it, im sure terry  just set up this shot and asked faye to sit her butt down and after the click of the shutter they exchanged cordial goodbyes, but het it does sound romantically dark and beautiful none-the-less. by dd

Nobuyoshi Araki: gaga polaroids

aaaah how i cant stand this girl, i ran into her oneday at the milk studios in LA while shooting another one of my ‘favorite’ girls (wont mention names now). i stepped out to grab some air and inhale some smoke and out came gaga out of her obnoxious SUV – engin running and all. she was shooting a story for vanity fair (hello graydon? i know… you too have to sell mags) it was with nick knight in the next studio and i thought if the studio blew up now the world could be a better place… well maybe if only nick would get out clean. for one it would get rid of me not to mention the two debutant gals. in any case this girl is worse than madona in my book, in her savvy and blatant theft of creativity. even araki is not off limits apparently. i must admit though, its the best way i wish to see gaga. all tied up with a fag  stuffed in her chords… i just cant stand another song with such uninspired garbage lyrics as “i’m too fabulous i’m so, fierce that it’s so nuts i live” packaged with a completely unrelated video done by the cream-of-the-crop of the industry who is so desperate for the cash and the glamor that pop brings. oh puke! bring back the pistols at least they were entertaining for a minute or two! by dd

wildebeests face the mara

what is in a name? beauty, terror, raw force of survival. these images, by tomasz gudzowaty, of a wildebeest (aka gnu antelopes) herd over a million strong on the plateau surrounding the ngorongoro volcanic crater in the serengeti during the december to june rainy period, inspire and haunt. after the last rainstorm, the plain rapidly changes into a dry and hostile wasteland, the wildebeests migrate, following the escaping rain and at a certain point during the migration, the herd must swim across its largest obstacle – the mara river. an epic journey. by kl

horst p horst – more cy twombly

i remember seeing this huge book on photographer horst p horst at home when i was very young, and i remember this portrait of cy twombly in his crazy italian house, the rest of the story was released in an edition of vogue at the time. love the romantic aspect of living in a palazzo and everything that comes with it as far as choices, life, style and so on. by the way, also love the gehrard richter portrait laying on the floor, in this setting, it’s rather cool! isn’it? by pp.
