‘The Clock’ by Christian Marclay

how much can you fit into one day? is this a 24 hour interpretation of the new york minute? seriously. but when i unsuspectingly came across this piece at the hayward last fall, with no recognition other than the fact the artist was represented by White Cube, i was refreshed and impressed. it’s been a while since we’ve seen something that is both welcoming to experience and provides an experience that makes you a little more conscious of your own. basically that time moves at different paces. christian marclay won the golden lion award at this year’s venice biennale for this time obsessed version of  a day. by kl

taryn simon – a threat of uncovered worlds

detective taryn simon uses photography to reveal worlds and people we would never see otherwise. i’m sure her underlying talent is as a smooth talker, as she has executed some of the most interesting and dryly humorous explorations in modern imagery. somehow this contemporary art princess was a threat so great walt disney world couldn’t even indulge her.  by kl

that’s entertainment: the jam without the butter

sorry to piss on this pop parade, but i’m still lost in the mod galaxy thanx to ar. this song was most influential with bands like bauhaus and tons on tail and the rest that followed. this was when the term “unplugged” meant you were straight, not on MTV. the simple drum and acoustic strum with potent words was a stand out. what is amazing is that although i still love this song, to this day, this is the first i’m seeing this clip myself, and just the other day i was saying how its so funny that every punk, rock, grunge, etc. band that come up and claims to be different, ends up grabbing a guitar and striking the same damn pose on stage, legs apart, leaning back like dee dee and waking the poor guitar to death. i was saying how cool would it be for a punk band to sit on a stool and settle down for a change? and here you have it with paul weller… from electric circus to this within a year. i guess i just like the way they did things with such ease. also if interested here is a very funny interview in sweden with paul weller. by xy

Flight Facilities: crave you

this is pretty 4th of july appropriate, i think i counted 63 flags in there… good track by the mysterious aussie dj duo, flight facilities, whom prefer to remain anonymous however have managed to tour japan and elsewhere in 2010-2011 or so i’m told… (how do you remain really anonymous and tour is beyond me but ok). giselle rosselli (not related to the master) who collaborated on this track is amazing and the song summery sweet. there is probably 20 remixes of this but this one is my fav pop indulgence, if i ever had any. i really “relaaaate to this” cause i do play with puppies and snake and do headstands and splits when i’m home alone too. we have tho much in common. by dd
